Charging your car using public charging networks
The government has provided funding to specific regions across the UK to install charge points as part of a public charging network. Outside of these regions, POD Point runs the POD Point Open network, providing access free of charge to public charge points in your area.
Currently, rather than there being one nationwide network, each region runs its own scheme (the creation of a joined up network is under development). This means that you need to first find out if there is a public charging network near you, and the details of how to join that particular scheme.
Joining a public charge network will cost between £50 to £100 per year (depending on which region you are in), and for that you get an RFID card which gives you access to all charge points in the region free of charge. Joining the POD Point network will cost you just £20, and will get you access to all charge points on the Live Availability map that are not part of Plugged in Places scheme.
