What is the public charging network?

There are several regions in the UK that are installing public charge points - typically these are on the street or in supermarket car parks. There are currently only about 250 charge points throughout the UK but this will increase rapidly throughout 2012. More information about public charge networks can be found here.

How can I use a POD Point?

POD Points are very simple to use. It is simply a matter of swiping yourPOD Point key fob or card to identify you as the user, then connect your vehicle’s power cable, close the door and you’re done! Make sure your car is connected to your cable before plugging in to the POD Point. If you would like more information on how to use a POD Point, please see the Twin charge user guide on the Documentation page.

Where can I find a POD Point charging post?

You can check out our live availability on our website or through our POD Point app on your Android or iPhone. This will tell you the exact location of all our charging points around the UK.

View Live Availability map.

How do I know if that charging post is available?

On the live availability map you can clearly see through a colour coding system which POD Points are available. You can also easily see the status of a POD Point when you are driving past as they have highly visible status indicator lights along the side that show whether the unit is charging, available or out-of service.

Blue means available, green means in use, red means out of service.

In the future you will also be able to book online (or via your iphone) to ensure a POD Point is available when you arrive.

Can I request a POD Point charging point to be installed near me?

We have good relationships with many UK local borough councils so if you would like a charging point installed near you then please fill in our contact form and we will pass on your request. We can’t make promises , but we are firm believers that it’s important to get your voice heard and push for locations which will encourage EV use.

Please see the Public Charge Networks overview for more details on how to join your local government-backed public charging network, or alternatively the POD Point Open Network.

What happens if I lose my charging card/tag?

Parking rules for POD Points vary from location to location. Please check the signage in the vicinity of a POD Point to confirm the parking terms and conditions.

How much does it cost to charge at a POD Point?

Governments plan to encourage Electric Vehicle usage. As you are no doubt aware, electricity is not free, so at some point we will have to pay to charge our electric vehicles, but don’t worry, it is going to be miles cheaper than petrol.

How long does it take to charge at a POD Point?

This varies from car to car, but an hour’s charge at a POD Point should give you enough juice for about 10 miles of motoring. We recommend you plug into a POD Point whenever you stop.
